| This test measures the ability of molding sands to be rammed uniformly into deep pockets in pattern surfaces of various contours. The test involves placing a contoured plate in the specimen tube at a 60° angle to create a pocket. Sand is rammed into this pocket. The specimen is then stripped, supported with a curved plate, and hardness readings are taken at the tip (bottom of pocket) and opposite end close to where the energy was applied. The flowability in percent is calculated by dividing the hardness at the bottom of the pocket by the hardness at the opposite end, and multiplying by 100.
Consists of contoured plate to form pocket and specimen support plate. Requires No. 315 Sand Rammer, No. 315-9 Specimen Tube, and No. 473 Green Hardness Tester. Specifications: Net weight: 8 oz (227 g) |
