| When attached to the No. 315 Sand Rammer, the Flowability Indicator determines Dietert Flowability. It consists of a calibrated dial indicator on an adjustable mount. The stem of the dial indicator rests against the top of the rammer plunger, and the dial registers the movement of the plunger, between the fourth and fifth drop of the rammer weight, in terms of flowability. Flowable sands produce little movement between the fourth and fifth ram, having already reached maximum density, while non-flowable sands exhibit movement due to further compaction.
