NO. 370-C Melt Point Tester
This apparatus measures the temperature at which the resin coating on a shell sand melts and adheres to a heated metal bar. Includes a silver-coated copper bar, temperature controller, digital temperature indicator (Fahrenheit and Celsius readings), weighted, sliding constantan pointer, vacuum accessory with fitted block and plug in cord, 60-second audible timer, sample distribution plate, camel hair and coarser bristle brushes, portable dust proof anodized aluminum carrying case and removable cleaning tray.

The sample is distributed on a 12-inch (304 mm) long, silver-coated copper bar, which is heated from one end by a cartridge-type element. After a standard dwell time, the loose material is vacuumed from the bar and the surface temperature is measured at the point at which the mix begins to adhere to the bar. This is done by bringing a weighted constantan pointer into contact with the bar, forming a copper-constantan thermocouple junction. Temperature of the junction is shown on the digital pyrometer.

A test can be completed in less than two minutes making the apparatus ideal as a production control device for controlling each batch of coated sand produced.
